Taobao Scraper: Best Sellers, Prices & Sellers in 2026
Where Chinese shoppers pick a seller
Taobao (淘宝) and Tmall are Alibaba’s consumer marketplaces and share one search: Tmall hosts brand flagships and business stores, Taobao individual and small sellers. Between 1688, where suppliers sell in bulk, and JD.com, China’s largest retailer, they show which products Chinese shoppers buy, at what price and from whom.
The 20 products Taobao ranks first by sales for a keyword make a market snapshot. Getting them into a spreadsheet is the hard part.
What you can extract
One row per product, 31 fields:
- Identity: item id, product address, title and best-seller rank (1 to 20)
- Price: current and original price in yuan, as numbers
- Marketplace: Tmall or Taobao, category path, free-shipping flag
- Shop: name, id and storefront link
- Seller: type (business or individual), credit level, and description, service and logistics scores
- Shop profile: item count and opening date
- Location: province or city the product ships from
- Latest review: text, rating, SKU bought, date and photos
- Review counts: good, bad and positive rate, for individual sellers
Variants, stock and product descriptions are not on the public page.
The technical challenge
Taobao is built for shoppers:
- One page per keyword: the public listing shows 20 best sellers in a fixed order, with no price sort. Coverage comes from many keywords, not pagination.
- Chinese search:
无线耳机returns earbuds; “wireless earbuds” often returns less relevant matches. Brand names work in English. - Two page types: the listing carries the full title; the product page cuts it to about ten characters but holds the seller scores, location and review.
- Messy numbers: counts written as
700+or1万+and dates in Beijing time need converting to integers (lower bounds) and UTC. - Two marketplaces: Tmall pages show no review counts, so those fields stay empty for business sellers.
DIY or a ready-made Actor?
Our Taobao Scraper on Apify takes keywords, item.taobao.com or detail.tmall.com addresses and item ids, in any mix, with one row cap per run. Product pages are read by default for seller scores, location, original price and the latest review; switch them off for a quick title, price, shop and image listing. No Taobao account or API key. Pay-per-result at about $0.0029 per product.
A practical workflow
- Search in Chinese: several terms per market:
iphone 15,iphone 16andiphone 16 proreturn three different top-20 lists. - Filter sellers: split Tmall business stores from individual Taobao shops on
sellerType; a service score of 4.8 or above with hundreds of items is a strong supplier signal. - Read the reviews: the latest review and its SKU show what buyers chose; LLM-powered extraction helps summarize Chinese review text.
- Track by id: schedule the
idvalues that matter and compare prices daily; our e-commerce price monitoring guide covers alerting.
Use cases that pay off
- Supplier shortlists: a product’s 20 best sellers by credit level, service scores and ship-from province.
- Cross-border research: what a Chinese keyword sells most, and at what price, before listing on Amazon, Shopee or Lazada.
- Brand protection: who sells your brand on Taobao and Tmall, at what price and with which seller scores.
- Margin checks: Taobao prices against 1688 wholesale costs before you source.
The legal boundaries
- Public data only: the scraper reads the pages Taobao publishes to search engines and bypasses no login, paywall or CAPTCHA.
- Some personal data: shop names of individual sellers and review text can identify people; handle them under GDPR, CCPA or PIPL.
- Terms of service: Taobao’s terms apply to how you use the data.
- Verify before buying: scraped prices and seller data are informational.
