UK Companies House Scraper: Directors & Financials in 2026
The register every UK company answers to
Every UK limited company files with Companies House: its registered address, its directors, the people with significant control over it, and its annual accounts. The register is public by design, which makes it the reference for checking who runs a UK company, who owns it and whether it is still trading.
It is built for one lookup at a time, though, and balance-sheet figures sit in filed accounts, not in a column you can sort.
What you can extract
This Actor is an enricher: give it a company number or name, get one record per company:
- Identifiers: company number, name, status, type
- Address: registered address, locality, region, postcode, country
- Activity: SIC codes with labels
- Dates: incorporation and cessation
- Officers: name, role, appointment date, nationality, residence, occupation, month and year of birth
- Persons with significant control: name, natures of control, notification date, nationality
- Financials: cash, net worth, total current assets and liabilities, with change percentages
- Financial history: five years of cash, net worth, assets and liabilities
- Accounts: next due date, overdue flag, last accounts date
- Links: Companies House and CompanyCheck URLs
The technical challenge
- Identifier hygiene: company numbers have 8 digits, so
445790must become00445790, and Scottish and Northern Irish companies carry prefixes such asSC. - Name ambiguity: a name search returns a list (10 by default, up to 50); a number returns exactly one company.
- Financial coverage: micro entities, dormant and newly incorporated companies may have no financial data, and banks can file in non-standard formats.
DIY or a ready-made Actor?
Companies House runs an official public data API, free once you register for an API key. For registry records alone (profiles, officers, persons with significant control), it is the right tool, if you build and maintain the client yourself; see our API vs web scraping comparison.
The gap is financials: the API does not hand you cash or net worth as fields. Our UK Companies House scraper merges Companies House API data with financial figures from CompanyCheck (cash, net worth, current assets and liabilities, five-year history and change percentages) into one record tagged with its data sources. Input is a company number or name, singly or as a batch list; no API key to supply, proxies included, about 1-3 seconds per company. Pay-per-result at about $0.007 per company.
A practical workflow
- Clean your identifiers: pad numbers to 8 digits, keep prefixes, use names only where numbers are missing.
- Enrich in batches: up to 50 companies per run through the batch list.
- Score: rank on cash, net worth and their change percentages; flag overdue accounts and non-active statuses.
- Go wider: outside the UK, North Data gives the same profile-and-officer view across European registries; for startups, Dealroom’s legal entity data can supply the Companies House number.
Use cases that pay off
- Prospect qualification: financial health before outreach.
- Due diligence: status, directors and shareholders checked against the register.
- KYC and compliance: persons with significant control identified per company.
- Market research: competitors’ financial trends over five years.
- Lead enrichment: official UK company fields on top of your CRM.
The legal boundaries
- A public register: Companies House publishes this data so it can be checked.
- Officers and PSCs are people: names, nationality and month and year of birth are personal data under UK GDPR; process them with a lawful basis and minimize retention.
- Not an audit: financial figures depend on what each company files; read the accounts themselves before a lending or investment decision.
